Have you ever wondered as to why does 3'-5' strand acts as the template and not 5'-3' strand?

Project Ideas for Food Biotechnology
This one is a dedicated thread for "Discussions pertaining to project ideas for Food Biotechnology":
I will start with an idea for a Food Biotechnology project:
How about "Extraction of Carotenoids (for natural colors) from fungi isolated from various/ or a particular food source"
This doesn't require complicated equipments, and there is ample literature on this subject. We have an expert (with > 5 years experience in this field) to guide you whenever u need some help in an unsolvable aspect during the project!

Hi I'm Priyanka completed my MSc in medical Biochemistry from JIPMER in 2012. After that I continued my career as lab in charge and as lecturer teaching MBBS students. Now I'm moving to Virginia, USA on dependent visa. I would like to continue my career there. Since its long time I completed my masters, now can I do PhD or shall or there any options to continue my career there. I'm interested to work in industry. Hi Sunil Sir,
I am an average student who has completed BTech in Biotechnology from a NIT in 2014. Then I joined an IT company for the sake of getting a job in Jan 2015 and have been working there since 2.2 years till date. But my prime area of interest is Environmental Engineering. Thus I always wanted to do MTech in Environmental Engineering from a prestigious institute like an IIT/NIT, then even go for PhD. I have been appearing Gate Biotechnology exam since 2014 (my Final Year BTech). Below is the summary of my gate appearances :
GATE 2014 - 15/100 (Not Qualified)
GATE 2015 - Could not appear the exam as I joined the IT job a week before the Gate exam.
GATE 2016 - 21/100 (Not Qualified)
GATE 2017 - 39.04/100 (After matching my responses from the official Answer Key)
Joining MTech/PhD in an IIT has been my dream since my BTech days. But with the marks that I am getting in Gate 2017, I am expecting to get a gate score of around 500, if we go according to the previous year trends as I checked on career360 and inspirenignite. I know a score of 500 will not be enough to secure a seat in Environmental Engineering or Biotechnoology in any of the IIT as we are competing with students of other branches as well. I am also willing to accept a seat in NIT for MTech Environmental Engineering if I get with my Gate Score.
I want to know your views on what should I do. Should I apply for only the Environmental Engineering branches in IITs if I hold a chance or should I even go for Biotech branches.

Standardization of qPCR gene expression data from different biological replicates
Hey,
I have performed three experiments on gene expression studies of drug treated and untreated samples of lung cancer cell lines to quantify the expression profile of 11 genes with 1 reference gene using quantitative real time PCR. This was performed with three biological replicates and two technical replicates for each biological replicate. I have observed a general trend in the regulation of the genes. However, these three experiments were performed on three different plates and so I would like to know how to compile the results from all the three experiments to reach a proper conclusion.
How do I perform a statistical analysis of the data?
