Hello everyone. I have recently just taken interest in a career in computer science more specifically I want to get into Bioinformatics. I really find the idea of working in this field exciting but I feel as if I have no direction, no guide to show me what I should do to prepare myself. This semester I took my first programming class, C++, and it was pretty awesome. I wasn't the best but I did okay and got the gist of it. I had never heard of Bioinformatics until this class a few months ago, and Biology was my second choice of major besides CS so naturally I got pretty excited about it. What I would like to know is where can I go to find out more about Bioinformatics? What programming language should I learn? (I heard python is used a lot). What are some good books for a beginner? Also are there any little Bioinformatics programs I can make and mess around with using a c++ compiler?  I am eager and ready for some knowledge and direction from experienced programmers who do this everyday. Sir/Ma'am

I've got admitted to Amity University, Noida's Mtech Biotechnology programme after successful completion of Btech Biotechnology.
One of my bachelor's teachers suggested me not to go for any Private university as they are not preferred by i stitutes thay offer PhD later. He suggests that any govt university is better than a top notch private university which just extract money.
I am interested in pursuing PhD after my masters. Should I go for a masters programme in a private university? Or should I drop an year to prepare for GATE and get admitted to masters in any IIT? Or I should simple drop the idea of a masters degree as PhD can be pursued even after BTech? Please guide.

Hello sir, I hv completed my BTech in biotechnology and hv done a 6 month industrial training in the field of QA through BCIL-BITP .I am not sure if this domain has scope.I don't want to go in R&D. Can u please suggest me some other fields in which I can make a career.

Hello everyone,


Lately, I have been in New Orleans US for ASM Microbe 2017 conference.


Organised by American Society for Microbiology, this is a mega get together of Microbiologists and Life Scientists across the globe working directly or indirectly in the field of Microbiology.


I am here to make a presentation on my 16S functional Metagenomics tool, iVikodak. 


My presentation is on Saturday (US time).


I was thoroughly impressed by the grandeur of the event. The opening session was like the TED talk for Microbiology I would say. Here is a glimpse the opening session (sorry for the poor angle, but that's where I was seated).




Will keep you guys posted of more glimpses.

Hello, 

I'm currently fermenting a gram positive bacterium and am hoping to analyze medium components during the fermentation process. I am sure of methods used to measure glucose and lactose, but am not sure how to measure other medium components such as phosphorous or nitrogen compounds. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
